Departure     30 x 40   oil on canvas

This year has brought a lot of changes.  With our move from Alabama to Nevada I've reassessed why I make the art I do.  Throughout my years of painting I've searched to find my way.  My journey has involved studying principles and techniques of art as well as self expression, creativity, and psychology.  I've contemplated what it is that attracts me to certain pieces of art.  I love Monet's waterlily paintings for the beauty of color and the expressiveness of brushstrokes.  I'm drawn to Wolf Kahn's work because of the rawness of his brushstrokes and the energy of his color choices.  The deep feeling sensed in the presence of a Mark Rothko painting which is hard to describe with words - this is the essence of what I love about art.
